Frequently Asked Questions

Why are bookings essential - can I just turn up?

No sorry. Our walking tours require reservations so we know to expect you, otherwise we might be off exploring the city ourselves! We can’t guarantee a tour will run that day without a prior booking for at least two people.

Do you provide tours in languages other than English?

At this stage our tours are English speaking only.

How much does a private tour cost?

That depends on what you want to do. We can customise a city walking tour to match your interests and time frame whether it be shopping, food, history or sightseeing. We’re also happy to meet you at your hotel.  Please contact us.

Who will guide me?

Our guides are pre-assigned to a tour roster based on their availability. They have been fully trained and put through their paces.

How do I find my guide on the day?

Our guides hold an Aucky Walky sign, and will be there to greet you 10 minutes before your tour departs. We start on time with a brief overview and depart from the meeting point at the scheduled start time.

How long is the tour and what distance will we walk?

All tours are around 2.5 - 3 hours and we walk between 3- 4 kilometres. We maintain a moderate walking pace, stopping at various sites along the tour. The Hello Auckland tour starts downtown on Queen Street and ends midtown back on Queen Street. About one kilometre up from where the walk started.

Why do you take us on a local bus? How long is the ride?

We show visitors how to get around cheaply so provide a quick overview of Auckland’s public transport. The Hello Auckland tour bus ride is included in the cost of the tour and allows us to get uptown quickly in 5-8 minutes to a local spot most visitors miss. We then resume walking. We do allow for a walk variation if there’s a disruption with the bus.

Do you cancel in wet weather?

No, as it rains often in Auckland so we tour rain or shine. We don’t cancel unless Aucklanders are advised to stay indoors!  Please bring a jacket or umbrella. If it’s wet then we shelter. Aucky Walky reserves the right to cancel or delay the start of tours in the event of potentially dangerous weather. Check the latest weather forecast here.

Hotline

Call +64 (21) 378 267  and leave your name, number and message so we can get back to you – we will return your call!

Can I take photos? Is recording or note taking permitted on a tour?

Yes as we walk, please take photos but be considerate of others in the group. Aucky Walky does not permit note taking or audio taping.

Are your tours wheelchair or mobility scooter friendly?

The Waterfront tour certainly is. The Hello Auckland tour includes one short uphill climb, many flights of stairs and a short ride on a local bus. So please book a private tour if you require a wheelchair accessible or mobility scooter friendly tour route. We will look after you. Aucky Walky does not provide wheelchairs for tour-takers and cannot guarantee that all curbs will have compliant ramps.

Are there restrooms available?

We can fit in a short toilet stop if required. Just ask your guide.

How do I pay online?

We offer secure online payment via credit card. Click on BOOK A WALK at the top of this page to make your booking. You will receive a confirmation email with your booking details and a reminder email the day prior to your tour. On the day please bring proof of purchase or personal identification like your passport.

What is your refund policy?

We understand plans change so we will refund a cancellation (less admin fee) up until 2 days prior to your scheduled tour. However cancellations within 2 days prior (48 hours) of your tour or no shows will not be refunded. We will try and book you on another tour if you need to postpone. See our terms and conditions for more information.

Should I tip my guide?

Tips are always appreciated by our self employed guides  - thank you!!

Are the tours suitable for young children?  Why don't you have child pricing?

Our open tours are best suited to school children aged 10 and up. Multiple stairs and a short ride on a local bus make it difficult to accommodate strollers and still keep to time. Our experience suggests young children may struggle to walk the tour distance. We do ask that if children get disruptive on a tour that a parent/guardian step away from the group until the child settles down. Given our small-group focus of eight or less people, we don't provide child pricing. If you have young kids then please consider booking a private tour with us. We’d be happy to accommodate you and design a more playful experience!

How do I give feedback?

Please let us know how we did. Aucky Walky is a small operator and relies mostly on word of mouth. Please share your tour experience here on TripAdvisor or Google so we can show more people the delights of Auckland. Thank you for walking with us
